Preventing scalds in the elderly when cooking vegetables

Preventing scalds in the elderly when cooking vegetables can often be a potential hazard. Usually a patient will try to lift the heavy saucepan with the vegetables inside to drain the veg. A better and safer solution is to use a wire chip pan basket. By placing the chip pan basket inside the saucepan before adding the vegetables it enables the patient to lift out the basket easily. This reduces the risk of burns from boiling liquid and is a lot lighter to carry to the plate.
